Stock index down, peso slightly higher

Philippine stocks closed lower while the peso ended slightly higher against the US dollar on Monday.
The Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE) index settled at 7,708.72 points, down 88.39 points. In the broader market, there were 128 decliners, 63 gainers while 47 shares were unchanged.
The peso finished at P52.20, up from Friday's P52.25. Volume at the foreign exchange portal at the Bankers Association of the Philippines reached $833.54 million from $1.232 billion,
Volume at the PSE amounted to 692.5 million shares worth P5.48 billion from Friday's 1.099 billion shares valued at P5.3 billion.
Most active shares were led by SM Investment Corp.,down 1.6 percent to P925; Megaworld, up 1.65 percent to P5.54 and ICTSI, unchanged at P114. DMS
