Stock index ends above 8,000 points, peso surges

The Philippine Stock Exchange index finished above the 8,000-point level while the peso soared 52 centavos against the US dollar to end at P52.32 on Friday.
The PSE index settled at 8,013.42 points, up 58.70 points. In the broader market, there were 116 gainers, 77 decliners while 50 were unchanged.
Volume reached 1.3 billion shares worth P7.7 billion from Thursday's 1.4 billion shares valued at P5.7 billion.
Most traded shares were led by Ayala Land, up 0.67 percent to P45; Ayala
Corp., up 0.91 percent to P940 and SM Prime, up 0.51 percent to P39.50.
Volume at the foreign exchange portal of the Bankers Association of the Philippines reached $1.179 billion from $1.000 billion on Thursday. DMS
