Stock index lower, but peso gains

The Philippine Stock Exchange index closed 68.20 points lower to 7,129.42 while the peso gained against the US dollar on Wednesday.
The peso finished at P53.725 against the US dollar from P53.815 on Tuesday. Volume at the foreign exchange portal of the Bankers Association of the Philippines reached $707.5 million from the previous day's $711.9 million.
In the broader market of the PSE, there were 112 decliners, 74 gainers and 45 shares unchanged.
Volume amounted to 1.06 million shares worth P4.6 billion from Tuesday's 650 million shares valued at P5,14 billion.
Most traded shares were led by Ayala Land, 3.69 percent down to P39; San Miguel Food and Beverage, down 1.06 percent to P83.80 and SM Prime, up 2.06 percent to P34.70. DMS
