Stock index lower, peso slightly higher

Philippine stocks reversed course, with the main index closing below 8,000 points but the peso settled slightly higher against the US dollar on Friday.
The peso ended at P51.85 from Thursday's P51.87. Volume at the foreign exchange portal of the Bankers Association of the Philippines reached $707.2 million from $1,246 billion on the previous day.
The Philippine Stock Exchange index finished at 7,967.98 points. In the broader market, there were 102 gainers, 100 decliners while 50 shares were unchanged.
Volume reached 788.07 million shares valued at P8.18 billion from Thursday's 746.08 million shares worth P8,17 billion.
Most active shares were led by Universal Robina Corp., up 1.83 percent to P167; Ayala Land, down 1.25 percent to P47.40 and Metrobank, down 0.67 percent to P74. DMS
