Stock index nears 7,500-point mark

Philippine stocks gained on Thursday, as the key index neared the 7,500 mark a day before the final trading session of the year. The Philippine Stock Exchange index settled at 7, 482.66 points, up 32.65 points. In the broader market, there were 113 gainers, 82 decliners and 40 shares unchanged. Volume reached 1.65 billion shares worth P5,16 billion from Wednesday's 765.7 million shares worth P3.18 billion. Most active shares were led by SM Prime, up 0.99 percent to P35.85; Ayala Land, down 1.58 percent to P40,60 and Ayala Corp., down 0.66 percent to P925. The peso closed at P52,665 against the US dollar from P52.86 last December 21. Volume at the foreign exchange portal of the Bankers Association of the Philippines amounted to $807.45 million from $726.55 million. DMS
