Stock index, peso climb

The main stock index and the peso gained on Thursday following a trading holiday due to Labor Day.
The peso closed at P51.87 against the US dollar from P52.105 on Tuesday.
Volume at the foreign exchange portal of the Bankers Association of the Philippines reached $1.246 billion from $1.403 billion in the previous trading session.
The Philippine Stock Exchange index closed at 8,001.57 points, up 48.46 points. In the broader market, there were 109 gainers, 81 decliners and 52 shares were unchanged.
Volume reached 746.08 million shares worth P8.17 billion from Tuesday's 1.06 billion shares valued at P5.8 billion.
Most traded shares were led by Ayala Land, down 1.94 percent to P48; SM Prime, up 0.84 percent to P48 and ICTSI, up 4.27 percent to P131.90. DMS
