Stock index, peso end lower

Philippine stocks closed lower on Monday as the main index closed nearly two percent lower.
The peso ended the day at P52.52 against the US dollar, down 20 centavos to P52.32. Volume at the foreign exchange portal of the Bankers Association of the Philippines reached $886.2 million from Friday's $1.179 billion.
The Philippine Stock Exchange index settled at 7,863.02 points, down 150.40 points. In the broader market, there were 142 decliners, 47 gainers while 41 shares were unchanged.
Volume reached 708.8 million shares worth P5.4 billion from Friday's 1.36 billion valued at P7.7 billion,
Most active shares were led by Jollibee, up 1.51 percent to P316; SM Prime, down 0.13 percent to P39.45; Ayala Land, down 2.56 percent to P43.85 and SM Investment Corp., down 3.76 percent to P934. DMS
