Stock index rallies close to 8,000 point mark, peso declines to P52.41:$1

Philippine stocks ended a key index level on Thursday following profit-taking on the previous day BUT the peso lost 28 centavos against the US dollar.
The Philippine Stock Exchange index closed at 7, 927.20 points, up 62.50. In the broader market. there were 101 gainers, 99 decliners and 51 shares unchanged.
Volume reached 1.22 billion shares worth P14.17 billion from Wednesday's 1.13 billion shares valued at P20.15 billion.
Most active shares were led by Ayala Land, up 4.41 percent to P45; SM Prime, up 3.51 percent to P38.30 and Puregold Price Club, down 4.97 percent to P45.90.
The peso closed at P52.41 on volume of $932.22 million from the previous day's $679.2 million at the foreign exchange portal of the Bankers Association of the Philippines. DMS
