Stock index up, peso retreats vs US dollar

The main Philippine stock index ended higher but the peso retreated against the US dollar on Tuesday.
The peso closed at P51.11 from Monday's P51.05. Volume at the foreign exchange portal of the Bankers Association of the Philippines reached $931.4 million from $870.2 million.
The Philippine Stock Exchange index closed at 8,093.60, up 449.89 points. In the broader market, there were 118 gainers, 77 losers while 51 shares were unchanged.
Volume reached 981.97 million shares worth P5.93 billion from Monday's 1,.24 billion shares valued at P5.31 billion.
Most active shares were led by Ayala Land, down 25 centavos to P51.45; SM Prime, unchanged at P38, BDO unchanged at P139.50 and Bloomberry Resorts, up 46 centavos to P11.74. DMS
