Stocks down, peso gains

Stocks closed lower but the peso ended higher before the Monetary Board announced a .25 percentage point increase in policy rates on Thursday.
The Philippine peso settled at P52.8 from P52.97 on Wednesday. Volume at the foreign exchange portal of the Bankers Association of the Philippines reached $$799.3 million from $731.5 million on the previous day.
The Philippine Stock Exchange index finished at 6,952.59 points, down 29.51 points. In the broader market, there were 90 gainers, 89 decliners and 48 shares unchanged.
Volume reached 779.1 million shares valued at P6.5 billion from Wednesday's 1.03 billion shares worth P7.05 billion.
Most traded shares were led by ISM Commnications Corp., down 5.66 percent to P7.83; Metrobank, up 4.18 percent to P69.80 and San Miguel Food and Beverage, down 1.12 percent to P84. DMS
