Stocks end higher, peso at P50.37:$1

Stocks ended higher on Monday despite losing higher gains in early trading. The Philippine Stock Exchange index closed 43.10 points higher to 8,857.12 points. But at the broader market, there were 109 decliners, 99 gainers and 52 shares unchanged. Volume reached 735.8 million valued at P5.58 billion from Friday's 6.49 million shares worth P7.95 billion. Foreigners were net buyers, with P2.57 billion worth of shares bought and P2.15 billion shares sold. Most active shares were led by Megaworld, down 4.31 percent to P4.88; Jollibee, up 3.45 percent to P263.80 and BDO Unibank, down 1.15 percent to P163. The peso closed at P50.37 against the US dollar from P50.40 at the Philippine Dealing System. Volume reached $697 million from $588.50 million.
