Stocks higher, peso surges

Philippine stocks closed higher while the peso gained 36 centavos to end at P52.08 against the US dollar on Wednesday.
The Philippine Stock Exchange index finished at 7,895.06, up 15.85 points. In the broader market, there were 100 gainers, 99 decliners while 45 shares were unchanged.
Volume reached 1.29 billion shares worth P6.5 billion from Tuesday's 220 million shares valued at P4.8 billion.
Most traded shares were led by Cemex Holdings Philippines, down 15.04 percent to P2.26; BDO Unibank, down 0.15 percent to P131.70 and Ayala Land, down 0.28 percent to P44.60
Volume at the foreign exchange portal of the Bankers Association of the Philippines reached $948.95 million from $924.61 million on Tuesday. DMS
