Stocks, peso surge

Philippine stocks gained strongly on Wednesday as the key index rose by more than one percent.
The peso rose 15 centavos to P52.06 against the US dollar. Volume at the foreign exchange portal of the Bankers Association of the Philippines amounted to $873.34 million from Tuesday's $885.6 million.
The Philippine Stock Exchange index ended at 7,939.24 points, up 105.49 points. In the broader market, there were 122 gainers, 88 decliners while 42 shares were unchanged.
Volume reached 1.47 billion shares worth P7.8 billion from Tuesday's 2.8 billion shares valued at P8.1 billion.
Most active shares were led by BDO, up 0.23 percent to P129.50; Ayala Land, up 2.09 percent to P43.90 and ICTSI, up 1.02 percent to P119. DMS
