Stocks slightly lower, peso up

Stocks closed slightly lower on Friday, as the Philippine Stock Exchange Index ended 4.16 points down to 7,867.49. Week-on-week, the index gained 1.29 percent. At the broader market, there were 100 gainers, 94 decliners while 48 were unchanged. Volume reached 1.79 billion shares worth P8.09 billion. Foreigners were sellers with P4.16 billion compared to buying of P4.05 billion. Most active shares were led by Ayala Land Inc, up 2.44 percent, to P39.90 and PLDT, up 6.38 percent to P1718. The peso closed at P49.75 to the US dollar from Thursday’s P49.83. Volume at the Philippine Dealing System rose to $432.9 million from $551.5 million. DMS
