Stocks surge, peso unchanged

Philippine stocks surged on Wednesday, as the key index climbed 2.15 percent.
The Philippine Stock Exchange index settled at 7, 579.12 points, up 159.22. In the broader market, there were 124 gainers, 60 decliners and 50 shares unchanged.
Volume reached 1.23 billion shares worth P5.97 billion from Tuesday's 4.93 billion shares valued at P8.5 billion.
Most traded shares were led by Jollibee, up 1.26 percent to P305; SM Prime, up 2.87 percent to P35.90 and Ayala Corp., down 0.49 percent to P914.
The peso ended unchanged at P53.07 against the US dollar. Volume at the foreign exchange portal of the Bankers Association of the Philippines reached $658.85 million from $790.46 million in the previous day. DMS
