Stocks up, peso ends slightly lower vs US dollar

Philippine stocks gained on Wednesday, with the main share index closing higher.
The Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE) index settled at 7,797.75, up 36.46 points. In the broader market, there were 92 gainers and 92 decliners, while 52 shares were unchanged.
Volume reached 650.06 million shares worth P6.11 billion from the previous day's 1.52 billion stocks valued at P18.02 billion.
Most active shares were led by SM Investment Corp.,. up P10 to P935.50; BPI, up P2.50 to P77.30 and Ayala Land, down 15 centavos to P48.50.
The peso closed at P52.30 against the US dollar from P52. 22. Volume at the foreign exchange portal of the Bankers Association of the Philippines reached$913.8 million from Tuesday's $633.31 million. DMS
