TD “Marilyn” slightly weakens
September 14, 2019
Tropical depression Marilyn showed has slightly weakened as it moved northeastward, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said Sunday.
According to the weather bureau, Marilyn weakened with maximum sustained winds of 45 kilometers per hour and gusts of up to 55 kilometers per hour.
The center of the tropical depression was last detected 1,215 kilometers east of Basco, Batanes.
Pagasa said Marilyn remains less likely to make a landfall. The tropical depression is possible to weaken further into a Low Pressure Area (LPA).
However, the weather bureau said "potential re-development into a tropical depression remains likely."
Despite having less strength, Marilyn is still expected to bring rains and affect several portions of the country.
"Between today and tomorrow morning, the southwest monsoon will bring occasional to frequent light to moderate with intermittent heavy rains over Western Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Sulu Archipelago, Palawan and Mindoro Provinces," said Pagasa.
"Scattered light to moderate rains with at times heavy rain showers due to thunderstorms will be experienced over Bicol Region and the rest of MIMAROPA and Visayas," it added.
The weather bureau announced sea travel is still risky over western seabord of Southern Luzon and the seaboards of Visayas and Mindanao due to potentially rough sea conditions.
Marilyn is forecasted to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility Sunday morning. Cristina Eloisa Baclig/DMS
