Three alleged New People's Army (NPA) members were believed killed by government troops in an encounter in Quezon province on Tuesday morning.
Maj. Marco Antonio Magisa, civil military officer of the 2nd Infantry Division, said the 1st Infantry Battalion encountered 10 rebels at the vicinity of Brgy. Abu-abu, Mauban, Quezon around 8:40 am.
"Three communist terrorists are believed dead after an encounter," he said.
"No casualty was reported on the side of the government troops who recovered a 9 mm pistol after the 5-minute firefight," he added.
Brigadier General Arnulfo Marcelo Burgos Jr, commander of the 2nd Infantry Division, said troops were conducting “pursuit operations supported by K-9 units."
"Checkpoints are established to contain the escaping terrorists, soldiers and patrol bases are on alert while all assets such as tanks and military aircraft are on standby for possible deployment," he said.
"Subsequent engagements with the fleeing terrorists are expected," he added. Robina Asido/DMS
