Three firms submit their bids to be country’s third major telco player

Three companies on Wednesday submitted their bidding documents in the hopes of being the Philippines' third telco player.
These are Udenna Corporation, Philippine Telegraph and Telephone Corp. and Sear Telecom.
Udenna's partners are China Telecom and Chelsea Logistics. Sear Telecom is partnered with former Ilocos Sur Gov. Luis "Chavit" Singson.
NTC is expected to announce the country's third major telco player Wednesday afternoon.
Some delay occurred in the morning after PT&T and Sear Telco requested to raise some objections and concerns during the opening of their bidding documents.
PT&T President James Velasquez said they do not intend to stop the bidding but only want to have the ability to explain some of their provisions.
"For our case, when our bid is open, (we want) to just have the ability to explain certain provisions especially on the point of technical capability," Velasquez said in an ambush interview.
But the NTC said it abides with their general rules and regulations that no one should intervene during the process.
NTC said those who wants to object or explain their documents can submit their motion for reconsideration. Ella Dionisio/DMS
