Troops recover improvised bomb in Sulu

Government troops recovered an improvised bomb believed to be made by Abu Sayyaf leader and bomber Mundi Sawadjaan in Indanan, Sulu.
2nd Lt. Jerrica Angela Manongdo, public information officer of Joint Task Force Sulu, said the improvised explosive devise (IED) was recovered following the report of a concerned citizen.
Manongdo said at 4:30 pm of Col. Antonio Bautista, commander of the1101st Infantry Brigade and Lt.Col. Gagula, commander of 100 Infantry Battalion, went to Brgy Timbangan, Indanan to verify.
"Upon confirmation, Lt. Col. Gagula immediately contacted the EOD (explosive ordnance disposal) of JTF Sulu and disposed the IED on site," she said.
"The IED sealed with coconut leaves which was composed of a mortar cartridge, 90rr projectile heat, five liters of ammonium-nitrate/fuel-oil , battery and an improvised blasting cap was emplaced near a barangay road which could have hurt innocent civilians within 20-meter radius," she added.
Army's 11th Infantry Division and JTF Sulu Commander Major Gen William Gonzales said "the Abu Sayyaf Group is obviously frustrated by the series of their losses that they resort to the most hideous form of violent extremism - bombing." Robina Asido/DMS
