Troops recovered six improvised bombs following a 20-minute encounter with members of Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) in Basilan early Tuesday morning.
Maj. Arvin Encinas, Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Western Mindanao Command (Wesmincom) spokesman, said the encounter occurred in the vicinity of Brgy. Calang Canas, Maluso around 2 am.
Encinas said the troops were conducting security patrols in response to a reported plan of the terrorist group to conduct bombings targetting military camps in urban areas within the month.
"While conducting security patrol in the area after we received information from this group of FI (Abu Sayyaf leader Furuji Indama) will conduct improvised explosive device attacks, from concerned citizens,'' he said.
That is why we have preventive measures, which has resulted to an encounter on the ground," Encinas said. Robina Asido/DMS
