Two alleged NPAs killed in encounter vs military in Compostela Valley

Two alleged members of New People’s Army (NPA) were killed while another one was captured in a five-minute encounter with government troops in Compostela Valley province early Thursday.

1Lt. Jhocell Asis, civil military officer of the 71st Infantry Battalion, said one soldier was wounded.

Asis said the encounter occurred at the vicinity of Sitio Mangurayan, Brgy. Anitapan, Mabini, Compostela Valley around 1:30 am.

“The 71st IB received information from reliable source that the CNTs (communist terrorist) are planning to consolidate to conduct their anniversary at the vicinity of Brgy. Anitapan on March 29, 2019,” she said.

“Acting on said report, the troops conducted combat operations and encountered undetermined number of CNTs,” she added.

Asis said the armed men fled towards northeast direction.

“The bodies of the slain CNTs were turned-over to the barangay officials for identification and proper disposition,” she added.

Asis mentioned one soldier was also wounded because of the clash while the government troops recovered three improvised shotguns, one improvised explosive device , a 50-meter detonating cord and one blasting cap.

Asis said troops of 71st Infantry Battalion are pursuing the armed men. Robina Asido/DMS
