Two alleged members of the New People’s Army (NPA) were killed while high-powered firearms were recovered after an encounter with government troops in Samar province on Tuesday.
Maj. Abel Potutan, acting public information officer of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Central Command, said the encounter occurred in the vicinity of Brgy Carolina, Matuguianao, Samar around 10 am.
Potutan said, quoting Lt. Col. Rizaldo Laurena, commander of 63rd Infantry Battalion, the troops were deployed to conduct military operation following the reported extortion of the rebels
“Troops were able to catch up with these terrorists and were able to push them out of the community leaving two of their dead comrades behind with one M16 rifle, one KG9 and one shotgun,” he added.
Pototan said their bodies will be turned over to the local government unit for proper disposition and to have a decent burial. Robina Asido/DMS
