Two alleged NPAs killed in encounter with military in Sarangani

Two alleged New People's Army (NPA) members were killed in an encounter lasting more than an hour with government troops in Sarangani province on Wednesday morning.
Lt. Col. Ezra Balagtey, spokesman of the Eastern Mindanao Command, said troops of 73rd Infantry Battalion encounter more or less 10 members of Guerilla Front Tala, Far South Mindanao Region in Barangay Kinam, Malapatan, Sarangani Province.
According to 1st Lt. Orestes Fausto, Commander of Alpha Company, the troops conducted the combat operation following reports from citizens regarding the presence of armed communist terrorists extorting food.
Balagtey said the firefight resulted in the recovery of firearms.
"The troops recovered one M16 rifle, one M653, assorted belongings, and subversive documents," he said.
The 73rd Infantry Battalion led by 1st Lt. Jessie Hinampas the battalion's civil military operations officer, organized a Quick Reaction Team together with Malapatan Municipal Mayor Salway Sumbo to provide assistance for a decent burial for the two killed. Robina Asido/DMS
