Two Chinese were arrested after they allegedly tried to bribe investigators from Makati City Police Station around P1.7 million to convince them to not file charges against their friends who were arrested inside a prostitution den last Monday.
National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) chief Major General Guillermo Eleazar said the two suspects were arrested around 3:20 pm Tuesday after they tried to negotiate with the Station Investigation and Detective Management Section (SIDMS).
"They purposely went there to bribe our police officers conducting investigation. In exchange, the Chinese customers will not face charges... one had P1.3 million and the other P400,000 with total of P1.7 million," said Eleazar.
Eleazar questioned the two identified as certain Zhang Xiuquang, 32; and Fan Jianping, 23.
"You tried to bribe our policemen? What do you think of our police officers here?" he said.
Eleazar said they will coordinate with Chinese authorities as they are the one who can identify those behind the prostitution syndicates.
The 22 arrested customers inside the prostitution den will face violation of The Expanded Human Trafficking Act of 2012 while the two Chinese will be charged with bribing public officials.
Last month, a Chinese and two Filipinos were arrested for also attempting to bribe police officers from NCRPO to immediately release arrested Chinese caught for trafficking foreign nationals. Ella Dionisio/DMS
