December 30, 2019
Two people were injured by stray bullets two days before before the New Year, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said Sunday.
Brig. Gen. Bernard Banac, the PNP spokesperson, said the victims were from the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).
In a phone interview, Banac said they have yet to get more details.
Two other cases of stray bullets were recorded in the Caraga region but there were no casualties.
The PNP recorded six cases of indiscriminate firing, one each in BARMM, Cagayan Valley, Calabarzon, Western Visayas, Eastern Visayas and Davao regions.
"The people involved in those cases of indiscriminate firing were arrested," he said.
Banac warned criminal charges will be filed against those who will be caught and members of the uniformed service ill also face administrative sanctions.
Banac said 22 people were hurt due to firecrackers, still lower compared to 307 persons in last year's holidays.
He said the PNP have intensified operations to confiscate banned firecrackers and pyrotechnic products. DMS
