October 22, 2019
Indian Navy ships Sahyadra and Kiltan will arrive in Manila for a port visit Wednesday.
Lt. Commander Maria Christina Roxas, Philippine Navy public affairs officer, said the two ships are set to arrive at Pier 15 in South Harbor.
She said officials of the two ships are set to conduct a courtesy call to Philippine Fleet Commander Rear Adm. Giovanni Carlo Bacordo.
Roxas said the Philippine Navy has some activities with their Indian counterpartst.
“There will be confidence building engagement so like goodwill games, reciprocal reception and ships tour at INS Sahyadra it went here in 2015 and 2016, it went here twice so this time it is with another ship,” she said.
“The goodwill visit aims to boost naval diplomacy, to strengthen ties with each other, so that is the intention,” she added.
Roxas said the visit of Indian Navy ships followed the visit of Indian President Ram Nath Kovind who arrived in the country last week.
“Their president arrived here to commemorate the 70th year of diplomatic ties between India and Philippines so as form of diplomacy their ships also visit here,” she said.
It can be recalled that last month before the visit of the Indian president the delegates from Indian Armed Forces Army War College visited the Philippine Army headquarters in Fort Bonifacio. Robina Asido/DMS
