September 6, 2019

United Nations Command Military Armistice Commission (UNCMAC) Senior Member Maj. Gen. Kim Jong Moon visited the Philippine Army headquarters in Taguig City on Thursday.

Lt. Col. Ramon Zagala, Philippine Army spokesman, said the visit aimed to strengthen military diplomacy and cooperation.

"It also served as a venue to discuss current security challenges in protecting national integrity and sovereignty, and the promotion of regional and global peace community," he said.

Zagala said "during the courtesy call and forum, Army Vice Commander Maj. Gen. Reynaldo Aquino shared Philippine Army's Marawi experience in 2017 to other Korean and UN delegates."

He said after the briefing, "Kim mentioned Korea’s present efforts in addressing unconventional threats focusing on humanitarian aid and disaster relief to further bring assistance to the people."

“I certainly believe that we can exchange [helpful knowledge and skills] from our respective armies,” said Kim.

Zagala said Kim also extended his gratitude to the Philippine Army as he recalled the support of the Filipino troops in ending the Korean War in 1953 and the professionalism by  Filipino troops in the UN Command.

"Aquino and Kim also agreed in the importance of setting good grounds between the militaries through the continuous exchange of military personnel and increased commitment to training," he said.

"The Philippine Army is positive that visit will continue to boost the bilateral cooperation of both commands in order to better respond to conventional and unconventional security challenges we face today,” he added. Robina Asido/DMS
