UPDATE Duterte to conduct aerial inspection in Bicol, Calabarzon when he flies back to Manila Monday – Palace

November 2, 2020

President Rodrigo Duterte is set to conduct an aerial inspection in areas pummeled by Super Typhoon "Rolly" on Monday, Malacanang said.

In a Viber message to reporters, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said Duterte will return to Manila from Davao City today.

"Enroute to Manila, he will be conducting an aerial inspection in Bicolandia and Calabrzon," he said.

Bicol Region, including Catanduanes and Albay, and Region IV-A or Calabarzon, were among the areas where Rolly made landfall on Sunday.

In the meeting of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council on Monday morning, authorities have said  they had difficulty communicating with the officials in Catanduanes as communication lines have been down.

Albay Governor Al Francis Bichara, in the "Laging Handa" press briefing, said six people perished in the province due to ''Rolly''.

Batangas Governor Hermilando Mandanas, in the same briefing, thanked God that when Rolly made its landfall in Lobo, Batangas, it was not strong as expected.

However, he said there were areas in the province that submerged although floods subsided.

He said one person from Ibaan town is missing after falling in the culvert while cleaning the drainage system.

Mandanas said that the destruction brought by Typhoon "Quinta" recently was much bigger compared to ''Rolly'''.

Both Bichara and Mandanas said that damage to agriculture sector in their respective provinces could have reached P1 billion. Celerina Monte/DMS
