Villar says TRAIN law is ” lesson learned” for government
October 15, 2018
Senator Cynthia Villar, who has been topping recent senatorial surveys for the 2019 election, said the passage of the first package of the tax reform law is a lesson for the government.
Speaking to reporters after filing her certificate of candidacy (COC) for senator on Monday, Villar said she believes that the Tax Reform for Acceleration and Inclusion (TRAIN) Law contributed to rising prices.
“It’s not that I regret signing it. It’s just that the projection was bad. We were not able to consider that there will be those that will take advantage of it. It’s lesson learned,” said Villar.
Villar said her support of the tax reform law will not hinder her re-election bid.
“I don’t think (it will go against me) so, because everyone knows that when we voted for the TRAIN law We did not predict that the prices of gasoline will go up and that rice traders will take advantage of it,” said Villar.
She said she will pursue more livelihood programs if she is re-elected.
“I’ve always worked for the building of livelihood projects, especially for poor people. So it is an advocacy for me, not a campaign line,” said Villar. DMS
