Visitations for cadets at PNPA suspended: PNP
February 5, 2020
Visitations for cadets at Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA) were suspended amid the threat of the 2019 novel coronavirus.
In a statement sent to reporters late Tuesday night, Police Brigadier General Bernard Banac, PNP spokesperson, said visitations are suspended until further notice as ordered by PNPA Director Police Major General Chiquito Malayo.
Banac said all personnel entering the camp are required to wear face masks.
“They are also subjected to temperature check at the gate before allowed entry,” he said.
In a text message to The Daily Manila Shimbun, PNPA spokesperson Police Lieutenant Colonel Byron Allatog said they have a temporary quarantine room in the academy in case a personnel or cadet will show nCov symptoms.
“We have temporary quarantine room here at PNPA and subject to be deployed at PNP General Hospital upon doctor’s advice,” Allatog said.
Last Monday, Police General Archie Francisco Gamboa, Philippine National Police (PNP) chief said they are considering a “temporary lockdown” on all their training facilities.
“The PNP is seriously considering the temporary lockdown of all our training facilities including Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA), National Police Training Institute (NPTI), and all its Regional schools to ensure the safety and protection of cadets in these facilities,” said Gamboa in a press briefing.
Gamboa said there is a need to get experts' assessment before it is implemented. Ella Dionisio/DMS
