Winning bets facing disqualification not off hook: Comelec
May 16, 2019
The Commission on Elections ( Comelec) on Thursday said candidates who have pending disqualification cases are still off the hook.
Speaking to reporters, Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez said the cases will continue and the winning candidate can be unseated if it decision goes against hik .
“And if the case is resolved afterwards, then the consequences will follow,” he said.
According to Comelec, they received a total of 68 petitions for disqualification.
On the issue of overvotes, Jimenez said they have not received any report.
“We will investigate it. You can see on the statistics… maybe that’s where they project it. I have to see what their source documents are first,” he said.
He said over voting means votes that are not counted.
“So if it’s true that there a million of over votes, then it’s a million votes not counted,” said Jimenez.
Jimenez said they have been reminding the public to not overvote as it will not be counted by the vote counting machines.
In a news report, around 1.1 million ballots have over votes out of the 45, 659, 724 Filipinos who voted last May 13. Ella Dionisio/DMS
