Aftermath: Taal Volcano eruption

A Manila Shimbun team went to the lakeshore town of Talisay, Batangas at dawn of January 13, hours after the eruption of Taal Volcano on Jan. 12, 2020. The government ordered the total evacuation of volcano island and towns within the 14-kilometer danger zone around the volcano after it raised the alert level to 4, warning of an imminent hazardous eruption. As of 4 pm of Jan. 13, 2020, thousands have left their homes. In the mountain resort city of Tagaytay, which has also been affected by ashfall, more than 3,000 have sought refuge in evacuation centers, mostly from Talisay and Laurel towns. Taal volcano last erupted in 1977. It is one of 24 active volcanoes in the Philippines.
