October 12, 2018
The country’s inflation rate surged higher to 6.7 percent in September 2018, according to the Philippine Statistics Authority. This was higher than the 6.4 percent in August and doubly higher than the 3.0 percent posted in the same month in 2017. The rise to nine-year high levels was primarily brought about by the heavily-weighted food and non-alcoholic beverages index which further accelerated to 9.7 percent in September 2018.
